The Berlin Design Week will take place! Hopefully in physical form from 12 to 22 May 2022 in Berlin. In case of a lockdown in Berlin, an online programme will be announced at short notice. Under the theme "Higher Purpose", BNDNWK 2022 is dedicated to defining a more sustainable, "better" future and invites participants to present ideas on how to make it happen. 

Higher Purpose

Since the onset of the Corona pandemic, societal problems have come into sharper focus and the push to address them has become ever stronger. Following on from the previous theme New Traditions, the BNDNWK 2022 is dedicated to defining a more sustainable, "better" future under Higher Purpose - design is to play the role of observer, mediator and solution provider.

Alexandra Klatt, Director of BNDNWK comments:

"Like many other people, we have been asking ourselves over the last year what path we want to take after the Corona crisis. We believe that now is the time for revolutionary change and new perspectives. The great challenge of our time is to develop concepts that reduce our consumption - and with it the production, consumption of resources and littering - but improve our quality of life in a sustainable way. In doing so, we have to consider different aspects: Environmental and climate protection, social aspects, economy, globality and connectivity. And it needs production and economic innovations that do not compete with this idea - creativity is not only in design, it is also in science and technology". 

OPEN CALL

Berlin, national and international designers, design studios, design collectives, brands, companies, agencies and institutions can apply to participate in BNDNWK 2022 until 18 March 2022. Start-ups and big players, cultural institutions and universities, scientists, research groups, labs and career changers.

The BNDNWK programme covers all disciplines and aspects of design. However, the focus is on experimental projects and concepts that bring together research, industry and business with design disciplines. Particular attention is paid to linking up-and-coming designers with established designers, suppliers, producers and commercial enterprises, as well as to mediating between the various design disciplines.

About the BNDNWK

Every spring, the BNDNWK presents thinking and design approaches that envision and shape our future. Over eleven days, exhibitions, talks, presentations, participatory projects and networking events take place at various venues throughout the city, where national and international designers, cultural institutions, companies, knowledge and research institutions present their work. Despite pandemic participation conditions, the BNDNWK 2021 programme included 7 physical exhibitions, 50 talks and digital presentations by 150 national and international participants.
