The Rheinterrasse is the new heart of the Düsseldorf Jazz Rally

Düsseldorf Jazz Rally is one of Düsseldorf's most popular traditional festivals. And more news from the organisers was also presented yesterday by the contributors and Lord Mayor Dr Stephan Keller.

Düsseldorf, 31 March 2023: With 57 days to go, the Düsseldorf Jazz Rally will take place for the 29th time, transforming the Rhineland metropolis into a singing and dancing city from 26 to 28 May. Over 60 concerts will bring jazz, swing, funk, soul, blues and more to the city.

For the first time, and also for reasons of sustainability, the organisers have decided not to build a marquee in the Old Town and therefore most of the concerts will take place in Düsseldorf's jewel, the Rheinterrasse. The Jazz Rally Düsseldorf is organized by tour operator Schauinsland and Destination Düsseldorf, a Marketing Association with about 150 member companies from the region.

For Lord Mayor Dr Stephan Keller, Pfingsten in Düsseldorf always means Jazz Rally at the same time. He said he was very much looking forward to the emotions in the city and that it was an incredibly lively festival that thrilled him personally. The 3 winners of the Sparda Award, there were 80 applicants this year, will be announced soon. And Adnan Eken of Schauinsland, who have sponsored the festival for years, was also looking forward to the event after 3 years of crisis. Artistic directors are & Nils Gropp and Reiner Witzel.

In numbers there are 63 concerts. 35 concerts take place outdoors and are therefore free of charge.

Culcha Candela, Björn Freitag, Rail travel and 9 marching bands

The main act in 2023 is the hip hop, reggae and Latin band Culcha Candela. Well over half of the concerts (35) will take place outdoors and are therefore free of charge.

Other highlights include jazz in a historic Rheinbahn and the @Kö59 even gives a jazz brunch at @Björn Freitag. Streets of Sound is another innovation - 9 marching bands will play spontaneously in different streets.
