Major art auction of the "Friends of the Kunstpalast" in Düsseldorf

The "Friends of the Kunstpalast" are holding a major art auction in Düsseldorf on April 27, 2022, starting at 7 pm. The aim is to use the auction proceeds to acquire a work by the Expressionist painter Marianne von Werefkin. The proceeds from the auction will contribute to the Friends' acquisition budget, which will be used to purchase works that will be on permanent loan to the Kunstpalast. 


The paintings, sculptures and photographs offered in the auction come from the studios of artists such as

Jan Albers, Silke Albrecht,, Trisha Baga, Tony Cragg, Frauke Dannert, Jan Paul Ever, Max Frintrop, Sabrina Fritsch, Vivian Greven, Andreas Gursky, Gregor Hildebrandt, Leiko Ikemura, Melika Kara, Stefan Kürten, Heinz Mack, Anys Reimann, Sebastian Riemer, Katharina Sieverding, Jan-Ole Schiemann, Thomas Schütte, Katja Tönnissen, Paloma Varga Weisz, Cornelius Völker, Moritz Wegwerth and Alex Wissel.


The auction will be conducted by Robert van den Valentyn, partner and head of modern and contemporary art at the renowned Cologne auction house VAN HAM, and moderated by cultural journalist Siham El-Maimouni.


Two weeks before the auction, the illustrated online catalog will be published on the website of the Friends of the Kunstpalast

Telephone and online bidding will be available in addition to room bids.

The Kunstpalast Düsseldorf is one of the most important museums in Germany. It houses paintings from the 15th to the 21st century, as well as over 90,000 sheets, drawings and prints from its graphic collection.  Furthermore, sculptures, furniture and arts and crafts can be discovered, a large collection with works of expressionism and ZERO art, which originated in Düsseldorf.


Another treasure of the Kunstpalast is its photography collection of over 3500 prints, of which just over 3000 works are from the former holdings of Galerie Kicken Berlin, one of the most renowned international photo galleries.


The Kunstpalast includes the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf, which is contemporary and experimental, including hosting the world's first Augmented Reality Biennale.


Currently, the Kunstpalast is presenting "Electro. From Kraftwerk to Techno," through May 15, 2022, as well as "I. Max Liebermann. A European Artist, until 8.5.2022.

For the VALENTINO PINK PP COLLECTION head designer Pierpaolo Piccioli created dresses with the experimental drive of a radical gesture. The color palette was reduced to a single shade of pink, created together with the Pantone Color Institute. The color pink created a unique identity in the show, it was an absolute individuality and unrepeatability. The pink dresses harmonized even in different fabric variations, buttons or hardware - a masterpiece of Italian craftsmanship.
