Gaby Fey started her career as an international model - and discovered her passion for photography in the process. After moving behind the camera, she made her breakthrough as a fashion photographer and as an artist.

Gaby Fey explains about her art that each of her pictures holds a secret and that she takes the viewer on a journey into the unconscious, into the magical universe of wishes and dreams. Most of her pictures are created in a pool on the Côte d'Azur, where Gaby Fey lives for several months of the year. After casting her models, the exact position under water, the facial expressions and every gesture are discussed, rehearsed and rehearsed in detail, just like in the theatre. Sometimes a performer even carries small weights that pull him or her down into the water to the designated spot. Breathing apparatus and artificial light are dispensed with whenever possible. "When photographing under water, the main thing is to find the right moment, the moment when the portrayed person reveals his or her soul," says the artist.

SELECTED PHOTOGRAPHS

The artist has also published a hand-bound, large-format illustrated book entitled " Gaby Fey Selected photographs". On almost 200 pages, the "Undine of photographic art", as she is called by critics, shows her underwater empire - a soundless in-between world.

Highlights in the book are Gaby Fey's detailed stagings of world-famous paintings such as "La Cène", based on Leonardo da Vinci's famous "Last Supper". Also on view are her interpretations of Théodore Géricault's "Raft of the Medusa", Sandro Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" or Eugène Delacroix's "Liberty Leads the People", in which her "Marianne" fights for a better future with a lightsword. Her homage to Oscar Wilde's "Portrait of Dorian Gray", which she staged with the French model and influencer Kenny Scandal, can be found here, as well as photos from her "Danse Vulcanique" series and other scenes realised with professional dancers. Unusual fashion photographs and pictures from the series "screaming silence" can also be found in the photo book.
