Pantone and artist Polygon1993 co-hosted an NFT Giveaway on Tezo's Blockchain inspired by PANTONE® 17-3938 Very Peri, the Pantone Color of the Year 2022. Polygon1993 is a renowned artist based in Paris who has collaborated with many musicians including Grimes, Tame Impala and Charli XCX.

The NFT giveaway took place at Tezos' largest NFT marketplace, Objkt through March 14. The promotion will be followed by more forays by Pantone into the metaverse.

The color reminded the artist Polygon1993 of his childhood "The blue and red undertones gave the color a retro atmosphere (...) I was able to create something new, going back to the old but making it new and futuristic. It showed me that we don't have to erase everything instead we can transform it and give it a new purpose."

Pantone Color of the Year

The Pantone Color of the Year is chosen by the Pantone Color Institute, which works with a group of color experts to research global and cultural trends to determine the color that best symbolizes the global zeitgeist at a given time.

In 1963, Pantone revolutionized the printing industry with the Pantone Matching System®. Founder Lawrence Herbert developed a system for identifying, matching and communicating colors to ensure consistency in the print and textile design industries. Lawrence Herbert had been working at the Carlstadt, New Jersey, print shop since 1956 and bought the company in 1962. The matching system soon entered into collaborations with ink manufacturers and software houses such as Adobe and then became a global player. The company claims to have over 1000 licensees today.

The Pantone Matching system is based on 18 basic colors, which are presented in a fan or in a ring binder. In four-color printing, the basic colors cyan, magenta, yellow and black are printed as individual halftone dots, with Pantone colors printed as solids in a separate printing pass. The Pantone fan is all about representing the respective color impression in relation to the substrate - although the results can vary greatly.

Entering the digital arts and metaverse is a new challenge for Pantone and that's why the collaboration with Polygon1993 is so exciting and raises hopes for more to come.
