As a tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, traditional Munich glove maker Roeckl has made its own interpretation of one of his favorite accessories, the fingerless glove.

When Karl Lagerfeld died in 2019, a star was extinguished. He was not only a fashion designer, but also an artist, designer and photographer. He was also a charismatic and down-to-earth personality. Over the decades, he accumulated a collection of art, interiors and everything beautiful, of which the 3rd stage is now being auctioned by Sotheby's Cologne at Palais Oppenheim in March.

Exclusively to commemorate the third anniversary of his death, Munich-based accessories brand Roeckl is launching a Tribute to Karl limited edition. To match, Roeckl has also designed a black cap with a captain's look, inspired by the legendary Chanel fashion show in Hamburg in 2017 and reflecting Lagerfeld's great love for the Hanseatic city.

Karl Lagerfeld underlined his personality with many accessories, but his fingerless gloves might have been his trademark. He was a rebel and free spirit and the gloves reflect rock 'n' roll and elegance. Long before anyone had invented the word influencer, Lagerfeld staged himself as a distinctive brand. With gloves, sunglasses, mozart braid and white shirt with stand-up collar, the fashion designer in became a style icon and mastered the philosophy of uniqueness like no other.

The Roeckl gloves are made with armored chains interwoven with the soft nappa leather and perforations. To match the gloves, Roeckl brought out a black maritime cap. In the Chanel shows, even boucle costumes were combined with such caps.

The Roecklcap, made of muted wool felt, has a nappa leather-look visor with a silver armored chain on the visor front.

The gloves are priced at 249 euros and the maritime cap costs 179 euros.

Both ROECKL accessories are unisex and available individually and as a set from February 19, 2022 in the ROECKL online store and in selected ROECKL boutiques.

Why the editors love it:

Fingerless gloves came into fashion sometime in the mid-80s and they were one of the fashion highlights. In the cut-off look, garments were trimmed just as gauntlets were. Fingerless gloves really came into fashion when icons like Billy Idol and Madonna wore them.
