Alex Checchetti, Mountain hut, 2021
project realized with the support of the Italian Council (2021).
SENTIERO by Alex Cecchetti is one of the winning projects of the 10th edition of the Italian Council, a program for the international promotion of Italian art by the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture.
Curated by Valerio Del Baglivo, the project, an environmental installation and performance will be seen for the first time at the eighth edition of the Biennale Gherdëin, a 8, curated by Lucia Pietroiusti and Filipa Ramos. Afterwards, the work will be exhibited in Austria, Sweden, Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland and in Italy, where it will become part of the permanent collection of MUSEION - Museum of Contemporary Art in Bolzano.
The Biennale Gherdëina will take place from May 20 to September 25, 2022.
The project
SENTIERO consists in the creation of a path in the midst of nature that, in the words of the artist, "accompanies us in a spiritual experience of communion with the multiple forms of life of Val Gardena: an immersion in the deepest and most vital connections that hold together life in the mountains." The work springs from the artist's reflection on the notion of physical and imaginary journey, which has led him to create a work that is partly a collaborative art project and environmental art intervention, partly an aesthetic-performative path and installation.
In addition, the work includes a series of installation elements that serve as "stations" to experience the landscape, interact with trees and other species, and observe astronomical events. Steps mark the audience's path and accompany them to the core of the work and experience: a YURTA, a tribute to the way of life of Central Asian nomadic peoples and embroidered and painted with natural colors from local plants.
SENTIERO has a nomadic identity and moves in different natural and cultural contexts, opening a reflection on the concept of border that characterizes the geographical space of North and South Tyrol, with an effort to transcend arbitrary demarcations and reflect on the idea of political, geographical and ontological border.
SENTIERO will be accompanied by an app for smartphones, through which the visit can be booked with the guides, and which will include documentation of the project and a forthcoming publication by NERO.
The artist
Artist, poet, choreographer and gardener Alex Cecchetti develops immersive scenarios that are experienced as both physical and mental landscapes. In doing so, he explores the relationships between the political and the imaginary, between ecology and poetry, choreography and painting....
