THE INTERNATIONAL GARDEN FESTIVAL OF CHAUMONT-SUR-LOIRE

The 2021 edition BIOMIMICRY

Since 2008, the Chateau and Chateau Park of Chaumont-sur-Loire has been the centre for art and culture, particularly in the fields of art and garden design. The domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire is an "artistic utopia". The year revolves around three major events: the Art Season and the International Garden Festival in spring and summer, and the Chaumont-Photo-sur-Loire photo exhibitions held in autumn and winter.

In 2021, twenty-four teams from around the world have been selected by the jury to take part in the International Garden Festival. They join the designers who have received a "carte verte" for 2021. Thirty new gardens are dedicated to the environmentally friendly theme of "biomimicry".

2021 - BIOMIMICRY IN THE GARDEN

NATURE, AN ENDLESS SOURCE OF INSPIRATION

Understanding and imitating living systems, and natural ecosystems in particular, is one of the keys to the future. Biomimicry draws inspiration from nature to achieve long-term innovations. A large number of human achievements have been inspired by the wonders of nature and offer extraordinary solutions and applications.

Biomimicry is an innovative process inspired by living forms, materials, properties and functions. There is much to learn from it in terms of bioluminescence, thermoregulation, pollution cleaning, water repellency, wind resistance. The aim of the 2021 Garden Festival is to give nature, both animals and plants, their place at the heart of human projects. So nature is no longer just a resource or a constraint, but a real source of inspiration.

LE SOFA CACTÉE - SERRE EXTRAORDINAIRE

In the middle of a greenhouse full of real cacti, an extraordinary sofa by the haute couture designer Maurizio Galante has been placed. The sofa represents a cosy cactus bed where sitting on the thorns becomes playful and ironic.

This exclusive design by fashion designer Maurizio Galante rests on a wooden base upholstered in a cover of high-density polyurethane structural foam with a steel frame for internal support. The removable cover is made of a special bi-elastic fabric that reproduces the graphic print of the prickly succulent with a three-dimensional effect.

Maurizio Galante, the french Haute Couture Designer remains very attached to his roots, and through his multiple artistic creations, he pays homage to the Italian "Dolce Vita" way of life.

LE JARDIN (DÉ)CONNECTÉ PRÉS DU GOUALOUP

Pierre-Alexandre Risser has designed a delicate forest garden with old maple trees from Japan, hydrangeas and perennials reflected in a central pond. A shady garden, a cosy garden, full of creepers and soft moss....

"Life is a path, sometimes a rather steep path.

Our bodies know better than we do what they can handle. Let

let it guide us.

Brain on pause and listen to the heart.

Drop the masks.

Take a break.

Back to the roots, bump into the maple trees,

dip a hand in the water, lie down on the moss.

Touch, feel, observe, close your eyes, listen to your heart

beating.

Clear your mind.

Life is a great journey when your feet stay firmly rooted to the ground.

Staying rooted to the ground."

Pierre-Alexandre Risser

Adventurer and plant lover Pierre-Alexandre Risser designs green oases where life is good. For almost 30 years, he has put his creativity and knowledge of the plant world to work, transforming gardens, terraces and balconies into soothing and cosy spaces.

LE JARDIN DE LA FONTAINE ANÉMONE - FESTIVAL GARDENS

Le jardin de la fontaine anémone blends perfectly into the natural environment and shows no signs of existing outside. This fragility of a life that is only 2% attached to it invites meditation. The tentacles of the plants are woven together like a Persian carpet and draw the visitor towards the water of the fountain. The layout of this garden resembles monastery gardens.

When the visitor enters this area, they feel as if they are in a kind of vivarium, not because they feel trapped, but because they are confronted with a fragile reality that makes them think about how we live our lives and how our lives could change in ten minutes if we make the wrong move.

Jean Philippe Poirée-Ville is an architect and landscaper. For Jean-Philippe Poirée-Ville, plant-life represents the very first architecture, it transcends time and space and can nurture the city of tomorrow by combining poetry and nature.

OTHER FLOWER FESTIVALS

"LES BOTANIQUES DE CHAUMONT-SUR-LOIRE".

18 AND 19 SEPTEMBER 2021

On the weekend of 18 and 19 September 2021, "Les Botaniques de Chaumont-sur-Loire", will take place in the Allée des Ormeaux on the domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire.

Les Botaniques de Chaumont-sur-Loire is an annual event organised in conjunction with the Plantes et Cultures association, bringing together plant nurseries and plant collectors to promote plant diversity and respect for the environment.

The Prince and Princess de Broglie, the last private owners of the Château of Chaumont-sur-Loire, had extensive collections of plants known for their outstanding qualities at the turn of the 20th century.

THE ART OF FLOWER ARRANGING

8 TO 12 OCTOBER 2021

Some great floral artists from France and around the world will enchant the rooms of the Château and the stables of the Domain with their flowers. The Chaumont domain gives today's cut flower producers, florists and artists the opportunity to combine their expertise and creativity to create beautiful arrangements.

THE CHATEAU

SHAPED BY ART, GARDENS AND HERITAGE

Since 2008, the Chateau of Chaumont-sur-Loire has been owned by the Centre-Loire Valley Region and is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The magnificent décor was desired by Diane of Poitiers. The Chateau has the extravagances of the Princess of Broglie, and has had many famous visitors such asNostradamus and Germaine de Staël. Chaumont-sur-Loire has always been at the forefront of creation, elegance and imagination.

The grounds and the International Garden Festival of Chaumont-sur-Loire are listed as a "Remarkable Garden" in France and since 2011 have also been the proud holders of the "Remarkable Trees" award.

The 2018 Michelin Green Guide to the Châteaux of the Loire has awarded the Domaine of Chaumont-sur-Loire 3 stars.
