In 2019 Chiara Boni La Petite Robe was the first womens fashion brand to obtain the PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) European certification.

Chiara Boni is one of the most successful Italian designers and fashion entrepreneurs. She is known as an icon of style and elegance. Her fashions are worn by stars on the red carpet and stocked at major fashion shops worldwide.

However, this position in the world of fashion and commerce also has a long history that began in Florence in 1971 with her own boutique, You Tarzan me Jane. At a time when women did not manage their own business. Chiara Boni's fashion has many facets, can be elegant, romantic or cool - simple or dramatic with many details but is actually based on a single material.

What today's fashion designers and producers strive for is economical sustainability, Chiara Boni started decades ago. Chiara Boni tells Alethea & Art how her fashion line had its breakthrough, makes a statement about feminine clothing and explains what sustainable garments and production mean.

Alethea & Art Magazine: The story of your own fashion began in 1971 with your own boutique in Florence. Today Chiara Boni is a global fashion brand. Can you tell me about how you got there?

Chiara Boni: I have a long story. After my own Boutique in Florence, I took part of GFT, one of the biggest fashion companies in Italy, which included Valentino, Armani and Ungaro. The group failed and I bought back my name. I had always been a girl who travelled with a trolley, so I thought that we needed new clothes to be invented that were easily transportable and easy to care for. In 2007 I started all over again     and decided to work with a new idea and a new name: La Petite Robe di Chiara Boni.

As I always experimented new materials for 40 years in 2007 I found the perfect fabric, from Eurojersey, which already had care about environment. Eurojersey was starting measuring the impact of

water, heat and carbon – until that moment this fabric had only been used for sportswear and swimswear. My first La Petite Robe collection was very small - 14 black dresses with a relatively light weight. 

About zips and hems

I never use zips or buttons for my dresses. As the manufacturing is industrial, it’s very difficult to have zips and hems well sewn. My material looks perfect cut off.

The development of my dresses was revolutionary. They can be rolled small -  washed in the hotel shower and they dry overnight and don't need ironing. My collections are mainly made of cocktail dresses or gowns.  Many times our items are used for films or TV series or for anchor women and journalists worldwide.

Alethea & Art Magazine: The story of your own fashion began in 1971 with your own boutique in Florence. Today Chiara Boni is a global fashion brand. Can you tell me about how you got there?

Alethea & Art Magazine: Would you describe your fashion line as sustainable fashion?

Chiara Boni: Nothing is 100% sustainable. But using the Eurojersey sensitive fabric, in 2019 Chiara Boni La Petite Robe was the first womens fashion brand to obtain the PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) European certification. The measuring and certifying procedure were made possible thanks to the traceability of Chiara Boni's 100% Made in Italy supply chain, guaranteeing high quality and an authentic sustainable approach.

Alethea & Art Magazine: Do you use fur or leather in your collections?

Chiara Boni: I don't use fur at all. My bags are a licensed business.

Icon of style

Alethea & Art Magazine: You are considered an icon of style, elegance and femininity. Who or what was your source of inspiration?

Chiara Boni: My mother inspired me - she was a very elegant woman all her life. In the 50’s and in the 60’s womens used to have a morning dress – an afternoon dress and an evening dress. She was also excellent in matching hats and gloves.

She dressed in Paris at Balenciaga, Givenchy and her milliner was Alexandre. For me as a little girl, the gorgeous ateliers in Paris were a dream world in gold.

Alethea & Art Magazine: You founded your first boutique in Florence in 1971?
Chiara Boni: My passion for young fashion started in London in 1967. When I come back to Italy I wanted to open a boutique, I had to wait till the age of 21 when I got married. With the help of my husband, I opened my first shop in Florence, You Tarzan Me Jane. That was the name of a feminist spectacle in London that I felt close to me as a feminist. The shop was revolutionary for that time: inside there was a huge changing room where everyone tried dresses together.

Alethea & Art Magazine: You as an icon of elegance and femininity - what do you think of street style and the oversized jackets for young girls?

Chiara Boni: The girls are of their time.

Chiara Boni ist eine der erfolgreichsten italienischen Designerinnen und Modeunternehmerinnen. Sie ist als Ikone des Stils und der Eleganz bekannt. Ihre Mode wird von Stars auf dem roten Teppich getragen und ist in den großen Modegeschäften der Welt zu finden.

Diese Position in der Welt der Mode und des Handels hat jedoch auch eine lange Geschichte, die 1971 in Florenz mit ihrer eigenen Boutique You Tarzan me Jane begann. Zu einer Zeit, als Frauen noch keine eigenen Geschäfte führten. Die Mode von Chiara Boni hat viele Facetten, kann elegant, romantisch oder cool sein - schlicht oder dramatisch mit vielen Details, aber eigentlich basiert sie auf einem einzigen Material.

Was die Modedesigner und -produzenten von heute anstreben, ist wirtschaftliche Nachhaltigkeit, die Chiara Boni schon vor Jahrzehnten begonnen hat. Chiara Boni erzählt Alethea & Art, wie ihre Modelinie den Durchbruch schaffte, setzt ein Statement für feminine Kleidung und erklärt, was nachhaltige Kleidung und Produktion bedeutet.

Alethea & Art Magazin: Die Geschichte Ihrer eigenen Mode begann 1971 mit Ihrer eigenen Boutique in Florenz. Heute ist Chiara Boni eine globale Modemarke. Können Sie mir erzählen, wie Sie dazu gekommen sind?

Chiara Boni: Ich habe eine lange Geschichte. Nach meiner eigenen Boutique in Florenz wurde ich Teil von GFT, einem der größten Modeunternehmen Italiens, zu dem Valentino, Armani und Ungaro gehörten. Die Gruppe scheiterte und ich kaufte meinen Namen zurück. Ich war schon immer ein Mädchen, das mit einem Trolley reiste, und so dachte ich, dass neue Kleidung erfunden werden müsste, die leicht zu transportieren und einfach zu pflegen ist. Im Jahr 2007 begann ich wieder von vorne und beschloss, mit einer neuen Idee und einem neuen Namen zu arbeiten: La Petite Robe di Chiara Boni.

Da ich seit 40 Jahren immer wieder mit neuen Materialien experimentiert habe, fand ich 2007 den perfekten Stoff von Eurojersey, der bereits auf die Umwelt achtete. Eurojersey begann mit der Messung der Auswirkungen von

Wasser, Wärme und Kohlenstoff zu messen - bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt war dieser Stoff nur für Sport- und Badebekleidung verwendet worden. Meine erste La Petite Robe-Kollektion war sehr klein - 14 schwarze Kleider mit einem relativ geringen Gewicht. 

Über Reißverschlüsse und Säume

Ich verwende bei meinen Kleidern nie Reißverschlüsse oder Knöpfe. Da die Herstellung industriell ist, ist es sehr schwierig, Reißverschlüsse und Säume gut zu vernähen. Mein Stoff sieht perfekt abgeschnitten aus.

Die Entwicklung meiner Kleider war revolutionär. Sie können klein zusammengerollt werden - in der Hoteldusche gewaschen - und sie trocknen über Nacht und müssen nicht gebügelt werden. Meine Kollektionen bestehen hauptsächlich aus Cocktailkleidern oder Abendroben. 

Oft werden unsere Stücke für Filme oder Fernsehserien oder für Moderatorinnen und Journalistinnen weltweit verwendet.

Alethea & Art Magazine: Würden Sie Ihre Modelinie als nachhaltige Mode bezeichnen?

Chiara Boni: Nichts ist 100% nachhaltig. Aber durch die Verwendung des sensiblen Eurojersey-Stoffes war Chiara Boni La Petite Robe im Jahr 2019 die erste Damenmodemarke, die die europäische PEF-Zertifizierung (Product Environmental Footprint) erhalten hat. Das Mess- und Zertifizierungsverfahren wurde durch die Rückverfolgbarkeit der Lieferkette von Chiara Boni 100% Made in Italy ermöglicht, die eine hohe Qualität und einen authentischen nachhaltigen Ansatz garantiert.

Alethea & Art Magazin: Verwenden Sie Pelz oder Leder in Ihren Kollektionen?

Chiara Boni: Ich verwende überhaupt keinen Pelz. Meine Taschen sind ein lizenziertes Geschäft.

Ikone des Stils

Alethea & Art Magazin: Sie gelten als eine Ikone des Stils, der Eleganz und der Weiblichkeit. Wer oder was war Ihre Inspirationsquelle?

Chiara Boni: Meine Mutter hat mich inspiriert - sie war ihr ganzes Leben lang eine sehr elegante Frau. In den 50er und 60er Jahren hatten die Frauen ein Morgenkleid, ein Nachmittagskleid und ein Abendkleid. Sie konnte auch hervorragend Hüte und Handschuhe dazu tragen.

Sie kleidete sich in Paris bei Balenciaga und Givenchy ein und ihr Hutmacher war Alexandre. Für mich als kleines Mädchen waren die prächtigen Ateliers in Paris eine Traumwelt in Gold.

Alethea & Art Magazine: Sie haben 1971 Ihre erste Boutique in Florenz gegründet?

Chiara Boni: Meine Leidenschaft für junge Mode begann 1967 in London. Als ich nach Italien zurückkam, wollte ich eine Boutique eröffnen, musste aber bis zum Alter von 21 Jahren warten, als ich heiratete. Mit der Hilfe meines Mannes eröffnete ich mein erstes Geschäft in Florenz, You Tarzan Me Jane -. Das war der Name eines feministischen Spektakels in London, dem ich mich als Feministin sehr verbunden fühlte. Der Laden war für die damalige Zeit revolutionär: Im Inneren gab es eine riesige Umkleidekabine, in der alle gemeinsam Kleider anprobierten.

Alethea & Art Magazine: Sie sind eine Ikone der Eleganz und Weiblichkeit - was halten Sie von Streetstyle und den übergroßen Jacken für junge Mädchen?

Chiara Boni: Die Mädchen sind von ihrer Zeit geprägt.
