About Jess T. Dugan

Drawing on their experience as a queer, non-binary person, Jess T. Dugan has an existential need to understand theirselves, express theirselves creatively and connect with others. Their aim is to use their photographs to facilitate intimacy, create empathy, understanding and critical engagement and contemporary social life.

Jess T. Dugan works with a medium format camera and natural light to achieve a traditional style. They are influenced by portraiture to give their work as much intensity as possible.

Another project was created between 2013 and 2018 and that is "To Survive on This Shore: Photographs and Interviews with Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Older People". They created this project with their partner Dr Vanessa Fabbre, a researcher specialising in LGBTQ ageing.

Another core element of their work is documenting their family, which became the Family Pictures series; work that continues to this day."
