News from Grafy: The young Hamburg-based artist Grafy, who recently opened Atelier 43 in Hamburg together with Joschua Gumpert, is part of the Lagos-Hamburg project, a bilateral art exchange with artists-in-residency programme.
Düsseldorf, 11 January 2023: The young Hamburg artist Grafy, who recently opened Atelier 43 in Hamburg (Hamburg's new Generation Z art hotspot) together with Joschua Gumpert, is taking part in the Lagos-Hamburg project. A bilateral exchange is planned - artists from Lagos, Nigeria, will come to Hamburg and Hamburg artists will exhibit and work in Lagos. Grafy will also produce an art book on the entire project.
The bilateral exchange programme will kick off with the vernissage of the exhibition CIRCLE OF ART on Tuesday, 17 January 2023 at the Nike Art Gallery in Lagos, one of the largest galleries in West Africa. On display will be works by the following African artists: Njoku Francis Ukachukwu (AKA TATINA), Ibie Blessing, Jane Eveshodioni Ugah, Faith Omole, Obiduru Bright Chizoba, Tide Tidelicious Ojo, Yusuf Durudola, Ayool Oluwaseun Omovo, Francis Njoku and Leye Wewe. The German Vice Consul in Nigeria, Gerald Wolf, will also speak at the vernissage. In the coming years, artists from Lagos are to travel regularly to Hamburg and from Hamburg to Lagos to work on site in an artist residency.
Grafy is a German artist born in Mannheim in 1998 who started his career with an exhibition in Hamburg in 2020. Grafy revealed in the interview: "I am really looking forward to Nigeria and the art scene there. I'm expecting an incredible amount of inspiration from it. I have the impression that there is a lot of positive energy, joie de vivre and serenity there and certainly very different challenges than here. But I want to experience that for myself on site. Above all, I expect a lot of artistic inspiration."
CIRCLE OF ART on Tuesday, 17 January 2023 from 12:00 noon.

The Visit of Trash People Circular Valley Forum Ansgar Van Treeck
Art Calendar / Environment / Business, 19 November 2022
HA Schult's Trash People at the Circular Valley Forum in Wuppertal on 18 November 2022."Check the thing you want to throw away and don't give it away. It is the mirror of yourself. Don't betray your soul." 600 decision-makers from business and politics came together, including environmental activists from the early days such as HA Schult and former Federal Environment Minister Klaus Töpfer, described by the Forum as the "father of the circular economy". The participants were surprised by the Trash People, many of whom had never seen the artworks up close before. But the performance also shows what role artists play. They are not among the decision-makers, but art has the power to unite and emotionalise people, as it did on this evening.
