Düsseldorf, 06.07.2022 - Volunteers wanted: The INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 from 09 to 16 September 2023 will bring together over 500 soldiers from up to 23 nations who have suffered physical and psychological impairments as a result of injuries sustained during deployment and service. They will compete against each other in a friendly competition in ten sports. 

The competitions will take place in the Merkur Spiel Arena with a large supporting programme including cultural events and sports activities. The organisers expect more than 100,000 guests. 

An event of this magnitude is unthinkable without volunteers. The project team of INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 is therefore looking for volunteers until 31 October 2022 to help with "A HOME FOR RESPECT." - the motto of the Games in Düsseldorf- to life.

The Games:

The INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 are a special sporting event. It is not about competition and performance, but about people, team spirit and their will to live.

The soldiers who have fought their way back into life after being wounded are celebrated. Through sport they draw strength for their rehabilitation. For the first time, blue helmets will also compete at the INVICTUS GAMES 23 in Düsseldorf.

Tasks of the volunteers

The volunteers are an integral part of the Invictus Games. Their job is to welcome all guests and athletes on site and to help them find their way around the event site and Düsseldorf and make them feel welcome. They will accompany the teams throughout the Games, whether on shuttle buses, in the catering team or at the competitions.

Who can become a volunteer

The Invictus Games are an inclusive sporting event and create a space for inclusion and diversity. The INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 project team is therefore expressly looking for people of all ages and also people with disabilities as volunteers. However, the age of majority is a prerequisite. Anyone who would like to become a part of this sporting event and volunteer can apply until 31 October 2022 via the registration portal at https://eventvolunteers.de/ (also accessible via https://invictusgames23.de/).

What is the state of preparation

The selection of volunteers will start after the end of the application phase. Applicants are expected to receive a confirmation or the information that they are on the reserve list in January 2023. In August 2023, it will be decided who will be assigned to which area of responsibility. Preparatory training sessions and a kick-off event are planned shortly before the Games.

All volunteers are accredited for the entire Games and have access to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Food and beverages will be provided during the assignment and all volunteers will receive a certificate after their assignment.

Two training sessions are planned for the beginning of September 2023, one of which will be held in German and one in English.

About the INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023:

Initiated in 2014 by Harry, Duke of Sussex, the INVICTUS GAMES will be held in Germany for the first time in 2023. The project, supported by the German Armed Forces together with the City of Düsseldorf, is intended to be a celebration of optimism and inspiration.

One of the essential goals of this international sports competition is to give soldiers who are wounded, injured and ill in mind and body a greater perception and recognition in society and to support their path in rehabilitation. The event will take place under the motto "A HOME FOR RESPECT." in Düsseldorf.

The venue is the Invictus Games Park with the MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA, the adjacent sports park and the Rheinbad.

Düsseldorf, 06.07.2022 – Volunteers gesucht: Bei den INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 vom 09. bis 16. Ein Event dieser Größenordnung ist undenkbar ohne freiwillige Helferinnen und Helfer. Das Projektteam der INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 sucht deshalb bis zum 31. Oktober 2022 Freiwillige („Volunteers“), um mit ihnen „A HOME FOR RESPECT.“ – das Motto der Spiele in Düsseldorf- zum Leben zu erwecken.

Die Spiele:

Die INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 sind eine besondere Sportveranstaltung. Es geht nicht um Wettbewerb und Leistung, sondern um die Menschen, den Teamgeist und ihren Lebenswillen.

Gefeiert werden die Soldatinnen und Soldaten, die sich nach ihrer Verwundung ins Leben zurückgekämpft haben. Sie schöpfen sie durch den Sport Kraft für ihre Rehabilitation. Erstmals werden bei den INVICTUS GAMES 23 in Düsseldorf auch Blauhelme an den Start gehen.

Aufgaben der Volunteers:

Die Volunteers sind ein fester Bestandteil der Invictus Games. Sie sollen alle Gäste sowie Sportlerinnen und Sportler vor Ort willkommen heißen und ihnen helfen, sich auf dem Veranstaltungsgelände und in der Düsseldorf zu orientieren und willkommen zu fühlen. Sie begleiten die Teams während der gesamten Spiele, ob in Shuttlebussen, im Cateringteam oder bei den Wettkämpfen.

Wer kann Volunteer werden?

Die Invictus Games sind ein inklusives Sportevent und schaffen einen Raum für Inklusion und Diversität. Das Projektteam der INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023 sucht deshalb ausdrücklich Menschen jeden Alters und auch Menschen mit Behinderung als Volunteers. Volljährigkeit wird allerdings vorausgesetzt. Wer ein Teil dieser Sportveranstaltung werden und sich als Volunteer ehrenamtlich engagieren möchte, kann sich bis 31. Wie ist der Stand der Vorbereitung:

Die Auswahl der Volunteers startet nach dem Ende der Bewerbungsphase. Bewerberinnen und Bewerber erhalten voraussichtlich im Januar 2023 eine Zusage oder die Information, dass sie auf der Reserveliste stehen. Im August 2023 soll feststehen, wer in welchen Aufgabenbereich eingeteilt ist. Kurz vor den Spielen sind vorbereitende Trainings und eine Kick-Off-Veranstaltung geplant.

Alle Volunteers sind für die gesamten Spiele akkreditiert und haben unter anderem Zutritt zu den Opening und Closing Ceremonies. Die Verpflegung während des Einsatzes ist gewährleistet, zudem erhalten alle Volunteers nach dem Einsatz ein Zertifikat.

Anfang September 2023 sind zwei Trainings geplant, wovon eines auf Deutsch und eines auf Englisch stattfinden wird.

Über die INVICTUS GAMES DÜSSELDORF 2023:

Die in 2014 durch Harry, Duke of Sussex, initiierten INVICTUS GAMES werden 2023 erstmals in Deutschland veranstaltet. Das von der Bundeswehr zusammen mit der Stadt Düsseldorf getragene Projekt soll ein Fest des Optimismus und der Inspiration werden. Eines der wesentlichen Ziele dieses internationalen Sportwettkampfs ist es, den an Psyche und Körper verwundeten, verletzten und erkrankten Soldatinnen und Soldaten eine größere Wahrnehmung und Anerkennung in der Gesellschaft zu verschaffen und deren Weg in der Rehabilitation zu unterstützen. Die Veranstaltung findet unter dem Motto „A HOME FOR RESPECT.“ in Düsseldorf statt. Austragungsort ist der Invictus Games Park mit der MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA, dem angrenzenden Sportpark und dem Rheinbad.
