Düsseldorf, October 12, 2022: Nowadays, no one can avoid the topic of sustainability. The term is used in so many different ways that it threatens to degenerate into an empty phrase. This is where British artist Michael Pinsky comes in with his processual installation The Final Bid, which he will realize for the first time in the Draiflessen Collection. For months, the Draiflessen Collection ran an appeal to hand in used chairs at the museum. From these, the artwork is being created at these moments. After the end of the exhibition, the chairs will be sold in the museum.

The artist's intention:

The largest share of average greenhouse gas emissions in Germany - at around four tons - is caused by the consumption of things such as furniture, clothing or appliances, and not by air travel, energy consumption or food. In a playful way, Pinsky wanted to invite people to break through the never-ending stream of new goods in a symbolic action. As an example, he chose the iconic object of the chair. Everyone needs at least one chair. Instead of always buying new chairs and thus consuming more resources, proposed to reuse already existing and used specimens. On the exhibition space, they become part of an ever-changing sculptural ensemble that eventually dissolves. Read also the exclusive interview that Michael Pinsky gave to Althea Magazine.

In addition, the world-famous Pollution Pods are on display in front of the Draiflessen Collection museum.
