Can Haute Couture be cool and simple? Yes it can, and how it works was on show at the Valentino Le Club Couture Show.
A big star-studded line-up turned up at the iconic Bridge Club in Paris, including Anne Hathaway, Doja Cat, Kylie Minogue, Dove Cameron and even Anna Wintour and Baz Luhrmann, but all eyes were on Suga, the new Valentino brand ambassador.

Fashion Calendar, 26 January 2023: The theme was to merge haute couture with the world of nightclubs and where better to do this than at the Bridge Club, iconic Parisian nightclub, just below the Ponte Alexander III.
After the Maison recently snapped up rapper, producer and member of BTS, Suga as its new brand ambassador, he also arrived at the Paris airport that morning. The whole world had followed his journey and the Ponte Alexander was full of waiting screaming fans. For his haute couture debut and first Paris frontrow assignment, Suga opted for a pale brown suit over a cream camel blouse and a beige tie scarf from the Unboxing Valentino collection. He also wore a beige necklace and beige dress shoes with it. There was a storm of excitement worldwide on social media as Suga respectfully averted his gaze when a model's top slipped off on the catwalk.

On fashion Valentino Le Club Couture:
The collection was an ode to the world of nightclubs. The show was opened by a model stepping out of a black limousine to head to the iconic Bridge Club. She wore a men's tuxedo jacket and hot pants adorned with a coral bow.
Head designer Pierpaolo Piccioli's mood boards are always highly interesting. Valentino Le Club Couture is inspired by the rich imagery of the club scene and so original tickets from Nirvana, The Plastics or even colourful club flyers from the 80s found their homage in the fashion. The theme of the Pierrot, the lovable tragic character, could be found again in many models. And the 80s staging of Valentino muse Brooke Shields in the legendary pink evening dress with asymmetrical ruffled collar was also to be found in several models.
The bow theme was to be a defining feature of the rest of the show, with the black bow appearing most frequently. An ultra-feminine symbol, the bow did not just appear as decoration, but linked complex couture garments together.
Sequined mini dresses with opera gloves and a lot of ruffled dresses in pink combined with black and also green could be seen. Graphic black and white elements appeared and of course the Valentino red in different shades. Strikingly beautiful were the many coat creations in different cuts, some so long that they had a train. When there were tight-fitting creations, they were playful with ruffles or bows or encrusted with crystals and sequins so that the silhouette was elegantly veiled. Also present at the show was Valentino's trademark PP Pink, which only appeared sporadically as a belt, men's jumper or coat.
The Alethea editors especially fell in love with the menswear.
Oversized jackets and trench coats in bright colours like emerald green, blue with oversized sequins or soft in even poudre. Bordeaux-coloured sequin suit blazers, black men's coats with feathers, or plain men's organza blouses. The cuts were reminiscent of the 90s, but seemed contemporary and cool. The absolute highlight was a black men's tulle coat with embroidery.
----
There was no distance to this haute couture. It doesn't seem to be reserved for the super-rich, but is quite simply cool, simple, full of energy and joie de vivre.

Art Calendar / Environment / Business, 19 November 2022
HA Schult's Trash People at the Circular Valley Forum in Wuppertal on 18 November 2022."Check the thing you want to throw away and don't give it away. It is the mirror of yourself. Don't betray your soul." 600 decision-makers from business and politics came together, including environmental activists from the early days such as HA Schult and former Federal Environment Minister Klaus Töpfer, described by the Forum as the "father of the circular economy". The participants were surprised by the Trash People, many of whom had never seen the artworks up close before. But the performance also shows what role artists play. They are not among the decision-makers, but art has the power to unite and emotionalise people, as it did on this evening.
