4 July 2022: The Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi in Florence announces a solo exhibition of the international artist Olafur Eliasson. This exhibition will be the Icelandic-Danish artist's most extensive exhibition in Italy to date.

The exhibition, which will open on 22 September 2022, is curated by Arturo Galansino, the general director of the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi. Palazzo Strozzi will present an overview of Eliasson's thirty-year oeuvre as well as new works conceived especially for Palazzo Strozzi.

Olafur Eliasson deals in his installations and objects with physical phenomena of nature - light, water, movement, reflection - and thus explores the role of art in the contemporary world.

Born in 1967, Olafur Eliasson grew up in Iceland and Denmark, where he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1989 to 1995. The Olafur Eliasson Studio has been located in Berlin since 1995 and consists of over 90 employees, including craftsmen, architects, archivists, researchers, programmers, art historians.

In 2014, Olafur Eliasson and his long-time collaborator, the architect Sebastian Behmann, founded the art and architecture studio Other Spaces, which focuses on interdisciplinary and experimental building projects and works in public space www.studiootherspaces.net.

His works hang in the world's most important museums or in public spaces. Together with the architect Sebastian Behmann, he runs the office for art and architecture Studio Other Spaces, www.studiootherspaces.net

Since 2012, Little Sun, a social enterprise founded by Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen, has produced and distributed solar lamps and chargers for use in off-grid communities. www.littlesun.com

In 2019, Eliasson was named a Goodwill Ambassador for Renewable Energy and Climate Action by the United Nations Development Programme.

The Palazzo Strozzi in Florence

The Palazzo was commissioned by Filippo Strozzi around 1489-1539 and embodies in its purest form an early Renaissance Florentine city palace.

Since 2006, the Palazzo has been the seat of the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi di Firenze, an independent public-private cultural foundation. It regularly hosts exhibitions of Italian and international art. From classical exhibitions such as "Il Cinquecento a Firenze: Tra Michelangelo, Pontormo e Giambologna showed works by Michelangelo Buonarroti, Benvenuto Cellini, Jacopo da Pontormo, Andrea del Sarto and Giorgio Vasari. To contemporary artists such as Ai Weiwei, Carsten Höller, Tomás Saraceno to the current Olafur Eliasson exhibition.
