Sotheby's presents only in Cologne from February 8 to 10, 2023 selected masterpieces from 2 private collections, including the 'Stier' by Franz Marc and Giebel IV' by Lyonel Feininger from the estate of the German banker Robert Ehret. Afterwards, you can take a trip to beautiful Paris as these works will be sold there in a live auction in Paris.

Art Calendar, February 6, 2023: Robert Ehret was a member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bank AG and had the nickname "Golden Nose" in the industry. Guided by their interests in literature, philosophy, history and political science, the couple Robert & Helga Ehret began collecting art in the 1970s. Their collection is indeed impressive and includes works from Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Ernst Wilhelm Nay and Sam Francis to Paul Klee, Lyonel Feininger and Emil Nolde. The auction includes around 60 lots, can be seen for only 3 days in Cologne and will be auctioned live in Paris on March 15, 2023.

A highlight is certainly the 'Stier' from 1911, whose German artist Franz Marc is offered for the first time in a Sotheby's auction in Paris. The 'Stier', tempera on paper laid down on cardboard, has not been part of an exhibition for over 40 years and is estimated at €300,000 - 400,000.

Another significant work is 'Gable IV' by Lyonel Feininger, a colorful oil painting from 1941 that was on the market more than 40 years ago, with an estimate of €500,000 - 700,000.

Other works on view at Palais Oppenheim on February 8 and 9 include Ernst Wilhelm Nay With Five Green Dots, oil on canvas, 1956. estimate: €400,000-600,000 and Emil Nolde Pansy, oil on canvas, 1908. estimate: €350.000-550.000

From another German private collection

will be a painting by French artist Francis Picabia from his 'Transparencies' series of works. Incidentally, Sotheby's holds the world auction record price for a work by Francis Picabia: in Paris, 'Pavonia' from the series 'Transparencies' realized €9,996,700 on March 16, 2022.

The British rock band Placebo has released a limited vinyl edition "Placebo Paint", designed by the exceptional British artist Stuart Semple.
