Düsseldorf, 3 September 2022: According to a survey by the market research company Kantar Public, 79% of the city's population respects the soldiering profession and is looking forward to the Invictus Games, which will take place in exactly one year's time in September 2023.
The German Armed Forces are the organisers of the Games and have taken up special quarters in Düsseldorf for this purpose. The motto of the Invictus Games 23, at which wounded, injured and sick soldiers present themselves in sporting competitions, is: "A HOME FOR RESPECT". The market research company Kantar Public conducted a survey on behalf of the organisers and found that 79 per cent of those questioned have very great or great respect for the soldier's profession. The general public, however, does not yet perceive this appreciation: 70 percent are of the opinion that society does not yet show enough respect and recognition to soldiers who have been injured in action and service. KANTAR PUBLIC conducted a random sample with telephone interviews among the resident population of Düsseldorf.

Focus on people and their stories
At the Invictus Games 23 Düsseldorf, visitors will meet soldiers who have taken great risks in action. They can experience how sport motivates soldiers and how they face strokes of fate with a sense of community together with their families and friends. Brigadier General Alfred Marstaller is the head of the Invictus Games 23 project team and says: "By attending the Games, our visitors are sending a visible message of appreciation and recognition for the competitors, their family members, friends and the issues of inclusion and diversity within our society." The games will take place in the Merkur Spiel-Arena, the adjacent Sportpark and the Rheinbad.

The supporting programme:
In addition to sporting competitions, the organisers also want to offer a supporting programme with cultural events and open sporting activities. We will report further on this.
Volunteers:
According to the organisers, the Games would not work without the volunteers. Of course, you have to invest a few days in preparation and during the Games, but you gain access to the world of this unique sporting event and become part of the Invictus family. Certainly an unforgettable event.
