Sonja Kalb - Magic Of Flowers - Mixed media on canvas @Sonja Kalb
Düsseldorf, 4 September 2022: Düsseldorf artist Sonja Kalb takes the viewer on her own imaginary journey into her abstract worlds of colour and places of longing. In her new exhibition, she shows the works she painted during the pandemic years 2020 to 2022.
Elfi Zimmerling M.A. Art Historian, State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia writes: "One senses that the artist has used the absence of anything disturbing as an artistic catalyst to simultaneously create her works, some of which are quite large in format, as if under a burning glass and yet also hazily blurred. With palette knife and brush, she creates colour meshes of impasto and glazed colour application, placing them next to unfinished canvas surfaces. Whether with acrylic, oil pastels, pigments or pencil - a lively multi-layeredness and optical depth emerges, drawing us into the pictorial composition."
The catalogue accompanying "Traumland" also includes works from the "Magic of Flowers" line, which Sonja Kalb has been painting since 2018. Initially in delicate pink tones, the artist now paints them in bold, raspberry red and purple arrangements. Also, the works from the series "Jungle", "Tropical Forest",
"Nature Bathing" or "Longing", which gave the impulse for the title of the exhibition "Dreamland". The exhibition and catalogue are sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Elfi Zimmerling M.A.

Alethea Magazine is present when artist and gallery owner meet for an exciting conversation in which Fabian Pfleger talks about the beginnings of his painting but also intensively discusses the sense and nonsense of academic art training.
