WET SAND

a film by Elene Naveriani

Like sand on the sea

A village on the Black Sea in Georgia, with friendly people who think they know each other. One day, old Eliko is found hanged in his house. Especially Amnon, who runs a small bar on the beach, seems shocked. Eliko's granddaughter Moe travels from Tbilisi to organise the funeral. In the village she encounters a web of lies and secrets. Only when Amnon breaks his silence does a new beginning seem possible ...

"Wet Sand" by Elene Naveriani gives a voice to the outsiders of rural Georgia and is a cinematic manifesto against homophobia. The melancholic and hopeful drama about cross-generational solidarity and queer self-empowerment celebrated its premiere in Locarno, where lead actor Gia Agumava was awarded Best Actor.

WET SAND
