Düsseldorf, 12 September 2022: Under the title "NO LIMITS" featuring "VOLAR", the newly opened Gerhardt Braun Gallery in Madrid is showing works by the German artist Leon Löwentraut. On display are 22 paintings, charcoal drawings, four sculptures and the spatial installation "Volar", which the 24-year-old developed together with the master class of the "Virtual Design" course at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences. The artist had a teaching assignment there during the winter semester on "Future Exhibition Design".
For the opening, around 400 guests crowded into the two-storey gallery in Salamanca, Madrid's posh district. Löwentraut emphasised in his opening speech: "There are no limits in art. If there are, it is the artist's task to overcome them." He added: "Art can only live if it is absolutely free. That's why my paintings are so explosive."
A highlight of the vernissage: star violinist David Garrett played five pieces of music and an encore. In his subsequent speech, the violinist enthused about the art of Leon Löwentraut, whom he described as a good friend.
Among the guests at the vernissage were: Isabella Neisinger-Langer from the German Embassy in Madrid, Zurich gallery owner Claudius Ochsner, young entrepreneur Florian Falk,
Spanish actress Mar Flores, interior designer Aneta Mijatovic, Zurich-based Mexican artist Susana Anaya and Spanish composer Juan Antonio Simarro. The day before, TV presenter Johannes B. Kerner had already visited the exhibition with his daughter Emily, who is studying in Madrid.

"Volar"
The exhibition concept "Volar", which Alethea already reported on, was explained by Professor Matthias Pfaff during the vernissage: "Works of fine art can be experienced in exhibitions primarily visually and only rarely haptically. If you transfer analogue works of art into a digital world, this becomes different. As a rule, touching and grasping a painting is not allowed. 3D scanning and 3D printing, however, allow interaction between the viewer and the painting."
Background
Löwentraut painted the work that is the subject of the installation in the Virtual Lab at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences. Via motion capture and with microphones, Löwentraut's movements were recorded while painting. Measurements of his brain waves are to show how Löwentraut gets into a "flow" during the creative process. Leon Löwentraut emphasised: "When I'm painting, I forget everything around me - sometimes I feel like I'm flying."
The 24-year-old Leon Löwentraut has made a name for himself in the international art world with impressive speed: his exhibition openings in New York, London, Vienna, Venice, Munich, Zurich, Copenhagen and Ibiza, among others, are considered spectacular. But his art also inspires and polarises. The business magazine Forbes chose him as one of the "30 under 30" (the 30 most important personalities under 30).
